  • Fusion

The hubby is away cavorting with Presbyterian teenagers and the kids and I are managing. Today we slept in and cleaned a bit. The girls went to a birthday party, we then prowled around target playing with every toy and reading every book. What fun! When I came home I decided to make something from my fused plastic experiment. Here is a couple of pics of the front and back of a purse I made for my eldest. I'm hooked.

    Finally!

We finally recieved our first package of school stuff from IDEA. It is the Rosetta Stone Latin America Spanish (this is my husbands 2nd language).  I am totally excited about it. It is kind of confusing for me setting it up. But the homeschool edition is really cool. The software will keep track of each childs progress as they learn their new language. The only problem so far is that there is only room for 5 students on the software. :( I wanted to learn along side them....There has got to be a way to get around that. We're still awaiting our Sonlight stuff, I hope it gets here soon. I'm really excited to check it out.

I've been feeling rather creative lately. Researching lots of new craft ideas for the 2 big craft shows I'm going to this year. I pray I make wise decisions. I don't want to waste precious time on making things that won't sell. I also made a new style of sling and put it up for sale in my shop, Flannel lined!. I'm in love with this one....it makes me wish I had a baby girl. He're a pic of the sling that has me longing for a 6th child...silly me!

So far I've found a couple of cute tooth fairy pillow ideas to add to the ones I already make and I'm planning on making some fused plastic purses and bibs. Any ideas?

Oh Bummer! While I was typing this entry, our littlest convict  cichild died.....the kids are way to sad.

  • A major change.

The biggest thing going on in our family right now is a change in schooling habit and ideas. We're trying something new this year, after alot of thought and prayer. When I first started homeschooling my children I used a program called The Weaver. Life got hectic with the birth of my youngest the next year and we have basically been unschooling since. Unschooling has been fun, but there is a restlessness in my household, and a longing from my children for order and structure(it could have something to do with moving 4 times in one year).

Since moving to Alaska we have heard many wonderful things about I.D.E.A.  http://www.ideafamilies.org/ and had been considering becoming apart of this program for the last 9 months or so. The idea of having 8600.00 a year from the state of Alaska to spend on the education of my children was very tempting, to say the least. So we looked to the homeschool legal defense site for advice. They said that the progran is wonderful and they see nothing wrong with it and they went on to praise Alaska as a wonderful place to homeschool. They did however say that anytime you accept money from a government organization you are putting the freedom in homeschooling at risk. So we thought hard about it and decided that we should continue to unschool using the materials we have on hand and the library.

Now it is October and we've changed our minds.........

Our family has offically joined the Interior Distance Education of Alaska program. As it turns out spending 8600.00 of the education of my 5 children is great fun.....ecspecially since it is not my 8600.00. The only thing I have to do to recieve this money is allow the state to test my children as a part of the no child left behind program. I also will submit a sample of their work every so often. Also, I.D.E.A. won't allow you to pay for any faith based cirriculum for your children so you are limited in what you can buy in that aspect, but you can pick and choose and build your own schooling and they will pay for it and ad your own bible etc at your expense. Our choices have led us to Sonlight for this year. We will be schooling the 2 girls together and the 3 boys together. Isaiah will be recieving a new IEP and his autism will be considered in his testing at the end of the year. The few items that IDEA won't pay for in the Sonlight pack we are more than happy to pay for. IDEA will also pay for swimming lessons, ice skating lessons and piano/ guitar this year and anything else we see fit to add. I'm most excited about the forgien language requirement, we've ordered the Rosetta Stone Latin America Spanish for all of the kids. This means I can sit in and learn along side them. We'll all get a chance to use it next year, on our missions trip to Mexico. Pretty soon everyone will be bilingual just like Daddy.

It is my goal to start blogging about our schooling more and look forward to telling you what I think of the program and the cirriculum I ordered.

    Blessings!

  • Can you please help me out?

    Hey everyone!

You can help the Morock family out by reading this note and acting......forward it to your friends if  you want!  :)

As you know I rarely promote my work at home business to my friends and family but I decided to remind you guys of what I do in my spare time :). I am an avid babywearer! I still sling Elias and he is 5! I've turned my love of babywearing into a craft and small time business to supplement our income (be it ever so small, the supplementation that is).

    So here goes:
You can help me out in a couple of ways.

    The first one being:
My online sales are really low  for me right now and I have a ton of fabric so I've temporarily dropped the price on a bunch of slings. As of today I have 7 slings on sale for just 18.00. I also have my handwoven Mexican slings on sale for 25.00. You save up to 12.00 on several of them.

I also just started carrying enviromentally friendly fabrics such as bamboo, linen and organic cotton. Unfortunately I can't offer them for 18.00 but check them out!

If you know anyone who is expecting a baby or has a child up to 35lbs and doesn't have a sling, this is a great time to buy one from me. Check out my etsy store at www.morockincreations.etsy.com .

    The second being:
If you have one of my slings please rate me at slingdirectory.com I am in the unpadded ring slings section (M&M Baby Slings). Also you can rate me at thebabywearer.com . Or email me pics of you using your sling or a rave review for me to post on mandmbaby.com.

The third being: Pray for me, if you don't mind. My hope is that I can make money at this and that money can provide for a at home study and apprenticeship program to become a midwife. This has been a dream of mine since before I had my own babies.

Thank you for your help and spreading the word for your dear pal,
    Maggie Morock :)

Shipping in the USA is just 5.00 , Canada and Mexico 10.00 and International
